What is Lead to Succeed?

Lead to succeed is a practical learning programme aimed at aspiring managers and deputies in adult social care services.

Is there funding available? Yes, adult social care employers in England can claim up to £500 per staff member on completion of Lead to succeed.

Skills for Care Funded Qualifications list 2022/23 Once funding has been confirmed by Skills for Care and DHSC we will share details of how to make a claim with all providers.

This is a virtual event.

Lead to Succeed was developed by Skills for Care in response to an identified need within the sector to up-skill existing managers and provide a pathway to develop aspiring managers in adult social care.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) states: "Our data shows that if a service is rated good or outstanding in well-led, it's more likely to be rated good or outstanding overall, compared with any other key question."

The programme covers five key areas over five days:

* Module 1 - Successful Behaviors for Leaders and Managers - 7th September

* Module 2 - Developing a Positive Culture - 14th September

* Module 3 - Effective Supervision - 21st September

* Module 4 - Leading and Managing the Process of Change - 28th September

* Module 5 - Leading and Managing the Inspection Process - 5th October

You will need to complete an activity before the webinar and another activity during the break, plus the action plan! You can view the learning outcomes for the programme here.

The agenda for each day is as follows:

* 10:30 am - Session start - Please complete the pre-activity before the webinar starts, because this forms part of the first session.

* 11.30 am - Break - Comfort break and time to complete the second activity.

* 11.30 am - Second part of the webinar.

* 12.30 am – Lunch Break - Comfort break and time to complete the third activity.

* 12.45 pm - Third part of the webinar.

* 13.45pm - Action plan review.

* 14.00pm - Session finish.

* Define what is meant by ‘leadership’ and ‘management’ and explain the difference between them

* Explain how sharing quality learning can have a positive impact on services

* Explain how to develop a culture where everyone feels responsibility for quality assurance

* Explain the importance of an entrepreneurial culture and the business benefits it brings

* Explain how to lead a team that manages risk effectively
Develop an initial action plan to implement the learning that has taken place

Module 3 Effective supervision

* Describe the scope and purpose of supervision in adult social care

* Explain key principles of effective supervision

* Describe how to use supervision to support own well-being

* Describe how to plan, revise and review supervision objective

* Explain the importance of active listening

* Explain the factors that could result in a power imbalance and how to address them

* Describe how to manage equal participation in supervision

* Identify ways to capture evidence and measure the impact of the changes made

* Develop an initial action plan to implement the learning that has taken place

Module 4 Leading and managing the process of change

* Identify the changing nature of adult social care and the impact of current developments

* Describe own role in leading change and how behaviors support this
Explain techniques to support change
Explain the value of co-production

* Describe the importance of working with others in managing change

* Identify a range of individuals who can contribute to achieving positive outcomes

* Explain the benefits of involving other people in the decision making process

* Explain practical strategies engage individuals in decision making and review

* Describe how to create a shared approach to problem solving
Explain how to identify quality learning that will lead to positive change

* Identify ways to capture evidence and measure the impact of the changes made

* Develop an initial action plan to implement the learning that has taken place

Module 5 Leading and managing the inspection process

* Explain the reason for inspections

* Explain the fundamental standards

* Explain the inspection structure of the 5 Key Questions
Identify which organizations are inspected by CQC

* Explain the implications of CQC ratings for organizations, and how to use the rating
positively

* Describe successful behaviors for leading an inspection

* Explain how to prepare for a CQC inspection and practical strategies that could be implemented

* Identify ways to capture evidence and measure the impact of the changes made

* Develop an initial action plan to implement the learning that has taken place
